Exploring Pillar 1: Mission, Vision, and Core Values through Classroom Visits
This week’s classroom visits took me to Jefferson Elementary where I had an opportunity to stop by Renee Warrick, Melinda Flaig, Sarah Forslund, Chad Norman, Nathan Brown, and Vanessa Woo’s classrooms. I also visited Skagit Academy school. I stopped in to see science in action in Karolyn Cheney’s class and Social studies activities in Lindsey Jones’ class. I also spent time in Liam Cary-Eaves’ Money and Business class (see link below if you are interested in seeing some of the merchandise they have to offer) and John Green’s Criminal Justice and Public Safety class. These connections continue to give me a direct view of the meaningful work happening in our schools on a daily basis.
Girls Bowling
This week, Dr. Roche and I had the pleasure of watching MVHS Girls Bowling successfully defeat Anacortes with a final score of 1744 to 1288. The MVHS girls bowling team is undefeated!! Way to go Team and coach Greg Hill!!!
Migrant PAC meeting
I had an opportunity to participate in the Migrant PAC meeting earlier this week. In this month's Parent Advisory Council (PAC) gathering, with a turnout of over 60 families, we had the privilege of listening to students and representatives from community organizations. This crucial initiative aligns with our Pillar 3: Meaningful Engagement of families and Community, providing me with the chance to witness the numerous positive developments taking place in our district. A huge shoutout to our Migrant team and advocates for making the November PAC meeting a big success again. To all that helped with calling and informing parents, setup, check-in, meal serving, cleanup, childcare, and anyone else who was part of this event, a big thank you for all that you do day in and day out for our families. Lastly, thank you Julie Sager and Chad Sage for hosting this event at Centennial Elementary!!
High-Cap Speaker Shares
This week, Dan Berard, Tim Newall, Dr. O’Brien, and I had the opportunity to participate in the presentation titled "Smart Is Not Easy: What Research Says About Highly Capable Learners," delivered by Austina De Bonte, former President of the Northwest Gifted Child Association. During the presentation, we gained valuable insight from an expert on effectively supporting our high-capacity students. This event exemplifies our district's unwavering commitment to Pillar 1: Mission, Vision, and Core Values. For those interested in viewing the presentation, you can access it through this link. MVHS to host the Winter Mariachi Festival
The Mount Vernon High School invites everyone to the Winter Mariachi Festival this evening at the MVHS Auditorium at 7pm. This event will showcase students from the MVHS Mariachi & Folklorico, MV Mariachi, Mariachi Azteca, La Venture MS Mariachi & Folklorico, Mount Baker Middle School Mariachi & Folklorico, as well as the Burlington-Edison Folklorico. We hope to see you there!
MVHS Woodshop Project Contest
Students in the MVHS Woodshop classes will soon display their skills in an upcoming contest. The projects, crafted by students, will undergo judging on December 13th. We will share the results and spotlight the remarkable pieces crafted by our talented students.
MBMS holds Cozy Drive Winter Fundraisers
Mount Baker MS has partnered with the MV Police Department's Integrated Outreach Services to hold a "Cozy" drive and collect warm clothing for those most in need in our community (our homeless population that this special division helps). They are collecting gloves (lots of gloves!), socks, pants, coats, underwear, sweatshirts and sweatpants, and hand warmers. These should be new or gently used and of various adult sizes (S, M, L, XL). If you’d like to donate, please drop off your donations at the MBMS office. They are accepting donations until Friday, December 8th.
Little Mountain Winter Program
Looking for another fun event to attend? Little Mountain Elementary is hosting its Winter program on December 13th at 6pm. Students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade will be showcasing their talents in this fun-filled evening. We hope to see you there!

MVHS Music Boosters
The MVHS Percussion Ensemble (sponsored by the MVHS Music Boosters) is currently raising funds to help purchase a new 5 Octave Marimba! Students are working incredibly hard and have been invited to perform at the Washington Music Educators Association State Conference in 2024, and they need this instrument for the upcoming performance. Explorando el Pilar 1: Misión, Visión y Valores Fundamentales a través de visitas a las aulas
Las visitas a los salones de clases de esta semana me llevaron a la Primaria Jefferson, donde tuve la oportunidad de pasar por los salones de clases de Renee Warrick, Melinda Flaig, Sarah Forslund, Chad Norman, Nathan Brown y Vanessa Woo. También visité la escuela Skagit Academy. Me detuve para ver la ciencia en acción en la clase de Karolyn Cheney y las actividades de estudios sociales en la clase de Lindsey Jones. Reunión del PAC de migrantes
Tuve la oportunidad de participar en la reunión del PAC para migrantes a principios de esta semana. En la reunión del Consejo Asesor de Padres (PAC) de este mes, con una participación de más de 60 familias, tuvimos el privilegio de escuchar a estudiantes y representantes de organizaciones comunitarias. Esta iniciativa crucial se alinea con nuestro Pilar 3: Participación significativa de las familias y la comunidad, brindándome la oportunidad de presenciar los numerosos desarrollos positivos que están teniendo lugar en nuestro distrito. Un gran agradecimiento a nuestro equipo de migrantes y defensores por hacer que la reunión del PAC de noviembre vuelva a ser un gran éxito. A todos los que ayudaron a llamar e informar a los padres, la preparación, el registro, el servicio de comidas, la limpieza, el cuidado de los niños y a cualquier otra persona que formó parte de este evento, muchas gracias por todo lo que hacen día tras día por nuestras familias. . ¡¡Por último, gracias Julie Sager y Chad Sage por organizar este evento en Centennial Elementary!!

Concurso de proyectos de carpintería MVHS

MBMS organiza actividades de recaudación de fondos de invierno en Cozy Drive
Mount Baker MS se ha asociado con los Servicios de Alcance Integrados del Departamento de Policía de MV para realizar una campaña "Cozy" y recolectar ropa abrigada para los más necesitados en nuestra comunidad (nuestra población sin hogar a la que ayuda esta división especial). Están recogiendo guantes (¡muchos guantes!), calcetines, pantalones, abrigos, ropa interior, sudaderas y pantalones deportivos y calentadores de manos. Estos deben ser nuevos o poco usados y de varios tamaños para adultos (S, M, L, XL). Si desea donar, deje sus donaciones en la oficina de MBMS. Están aceptando donaciones hasta el viernes 8 de diciembre.
