As we prepare to enjoy our day off tomorrow, it's essential to reflect on the meaningful reason behind it. This is a time to pay tribute to our veterans, the brave individuals who have dedicated their lives to defending our freedom, way of life, and our great nation. School Psychology week
This week was School Psychology week. I hope you had an opportunity to thank our superb team! Danielle Rump, YeoJin Chung, Golda Hornbacher, Ally Vadakin, Jen Loganbill, Cathy Wheeler, Heather Hall, Yoke Fong Lau, JoAnn Chan, and Richard Eaton, you make a difference in the lives of our students. MVHS College & Career Night
This Monday, MVHS hosted a College & Career Night for all 9th-12th grade students with about 250 participants in attendance. The evening kicked off with a Keynote from Tamam Waritu, who shared his experience as a first-generation student in America. Waritu graduated from Harvard. As part of the event, parents and students participated in workshop sessions, which also proved to be a great success. Workshop Topics included:
- How to Choose the “Right” Path”
- Paying for College
- Technical College and Community College Opportunities
- First Generation College Experience
- Students Resources in College
- Navigating the Four Year University Experience
A special thank you to the workshop presenters from Bellingham Technical College, Skagit Valley College, University of Washington, Western Washington University, Futures NorthWest, TRIO, CSF and GEAR UP as well as all of the staff and students who made this night such a great success. MVHS Jazz Bands and Orchestra performance
Last night, MVHS Principal, Dr. Colette Roche, Secondary TLL Director, Miguel Perez and I attended the MVHS Jazz Bands and Orchestras performance for a packed house. This concert was the first event of the year for the instrumental music program and they are off to a great start! Featured at the concert were our two student teachers from the high school music department: Anya Petroff and Jonathan Woods, future music educators from WWU. Next week, the band and percussion hold a concert in the MVHS Auditorium at 7pm on Wednesday, November 15th. Great job students and staff!
Centennial hosts Veterans Day Assembly
Centennial Elementary invited Air Force pilot Randy Kaufman to speak to students and staff at this morning’s Veterans Day Assembly. Thank you Mr. Kaufman for your service, and for sharing your story with our students today.
Classroom Visits: Pillar 1 (Mission, Vision, and Core Values)
This week I visited classrooms at LaVenture Middle School and Harriet Rowley. Classroom visits provide me with the opportunity not only to meet our exceptional staff and students, but also to witness the significant work that occurs in our buildings on a daily basis. Thank you Bailey Lowe and Brett Mathews, at Harriet Rowely for letting me stop by. Students were engaged and excited to learn. At LaVenture I had an opportunity to stop by Chris Fuhrmann, Claudia Briones, and Charlie Haney’s classrooms. During my visits to each classroom, I observed students actively engaged in the learning process. I appreciate the staff for graciously allowing me to stop by and witness their dedicated efforts. If you wish to have me visit your classroom, please don't hesitate to reach out to me anytime.
MVHS Music Craft Fair
The MV Music Craft fair takes place on Saturday, November 18th and is open from 9am until 3pm. This event serves as a fundraiser for music students attending MVHS. With over 100 vendors located within the MVHS Gym, Fieldhouse & Cafeteria offering their locally sourced, handcrafted items, you’re sure to find something for everyone. MVHS Music Boosters
The MVHS Percussion Ensemble (sponsored by the MVHS Music Boosters) is currently raising funds to help purchase a new 5 Octave Marimba! Students are working incredibly hard and have been invited to perform at the Washington Music Educators Association State Conference in 2024, and they need this instrument for the upcoming performance. Helping our community
Throughout the holiday season, there is an increased demand to assist our community members facing challenges. This year, we encourage you to seek out a local charitable organization dedicated to supporting our families and students. Recently, Guild Mortgage visited Jefferson Elementary to introduce their donation initiative to students. I had the chance to contribute, and while it may have been a modest gesture, it illustrated to the students the essence of giving and the desire to support others. I encourage you to locate a place where you can make a donation, reassured that your contribution truly impacts lives. Noche universitaria y profesional de MVHS
Este lunes, MVHS organizó una Noche de Universidades y Carreras para todos los estudiantes de 9º a 12º grado con la asistencia de alrededor de 250 participantes. La velada comenzó con una conferencia magistral de Tamam Waritu, quien compartió su experiencia como estudiante de primera generación en Estados Unidos. Waritu se graduó en Harvard. Como parte del evento, padres y estudiantes participaron en sesiones de talleres, que también resultaron ser un gran éxito. Los temas del taller incluyeron:
- Cómo elegir el camino “correcto”
- Pagar la universidad
- Oportunidades de colegios técnicos y colegios comunitarios
- Experiencia universitaria de primera generación
- Recursos para estudiantes en la universidad
- Navegando la experiencia universitaria de cuatro años

Actuación de orquesta y bandas de jazz de MVHS
Anoche, la directora de MVHS, Dra. Colette Roche, el director de secundaria de TLL, Miguel Pérez y yo asistimos a la presentación de las bandas y orquestas de jazz de MVHS con una sala llena. ¡Este concierto fue el primer evento del año para el programa de música instrumental y han tenido un gran comienzo! En el concierto se presentaron nuestros dos estudiantes de profesorado del departamento de música de la escuela secundaria: Anya Petroff y Jonathan Woods, futuros educadores musicales de WWU. La próxima semana, la banda y la percusión realizarán un concierto en el Auditorio MVHS a las 7 p.m. el miércoles 15 de noviembre. ¡Buen trabajo estudiantes y personal!
Centennial organiza la Asamblea del Día de los Veteranos
La Primaria Centennial invitó al piloto de la Fuerza Aérea Randy Kaufman a hablar ante los estudiantes y el personal en la Asamblea del Día de los Veteranos de esta mañana. Gracias Sr. Kaufman por su servicio y por compartir su historia con nuestros estudiantes hoy.
Visitas a las aulas: Pilar 1 (Misión, Visión y Valores Fundamentales)
Esta semana visité las aulas de la escuela secundaria LaVenture y Harriet Rowley. Las visitas a las aulas me brindan la oportunidad no solo de conocer a nuestro personal y estudiantes excepcionales, sino también de presenciar el importante trabajo que ocurre en nuestros edificios a diario. Gracias Bailey Lowe y Brett Mathews, de Harriet Rowely por permitirme pasar por aquí. Los estudiantes estaban comprometidos y emocionados de aprender. En LaVenture tuve la oportunidad de pasar por las aulas de Chris Fuhrmann, Claudia Briones y Charlie Haney. Durante mis visitas a cada salón de clases, observé a los estudiantes participando activamente en el proceso de aprendizaje. Agradezco al personal por permitirme pasar y presenciar sus dedicados esfuerzos. Si desea que visite su salón de clases, no dude en comunicarse conmigo en cualquier momento.
Feria de artesanía musical MVHS
La feria MV Music Craft se llevará a cabo el sábado 18 de noviembre y estará abierta de 9 a. m. a 3 p. m. Este evento sirve para recaudar fondos para los estudiantes de música que asisten a MVHS. Con más de 100 proveedores ubicados dentro del gimnasio, campo y cafetería de MVHS que ofrecen artículos hechos a mano de origen local, seguramente encontrará algo para todos. Impulsores de música MVHS
¡El MVHS Percussion Ensemble (patrocinado por MVHS Music Boosters) actualmente está recaudando fondos para ayudar a comprar una nueva marimba de 5 octavas! Los estudiantes están trabajando increíblemente duro y han sido invitados a actuar en la Conferencia Estatal de la Asociación de Educadores de Música de Washington en 2024, y necesitan este instrumento para la próxima presentación. Ayudando a nuestra comunidad
Durante la temporada navideña, existe una mayor demanda para ayudar a los miembros de nuestra comunidad que enfrentan desafíos. Este año, lo alentamos a buscar una organización benéfica local dedicada a apoyar a nuestras familias y estudiantes. Recientemente, Guild Mortgage visitó la Primaria Jefferson para presentar su iniciativa de donación a los estudiantes. Tuve la oportunidad de contribuir y, si bien pudo haber sido un gesto modesto, les ilustró a los estudiantes la esencia de dar y el deseo de apoyar a los demás. Te animo a que ubiques un lugar donde puedas hacer una donación, con la seguridad de que tu contribución realmente impacta vidas.
