Mount Baker and LaVenture Middle School students visit the High School
LaVenture MS Language Specialists, Marissa Ortiz and Ann Lackland, organized a visit to Mount Vernon High School – the first since the pandemic began. Joining them were Mount Baker Language Specialists, Stacie McNeal and Bethanie Overland. The event was attended by forty students from both middle schools' migrant and multilingual programs. Ja’net Pérez, LVMS Family Liaison, and Migrant Grad Specialists, Elia Solis and Rosa Mondragon also accompanied the students, while Multilingual Student Support Paraprofessionals, Enriqueta Carrasco and Antonina Datsky, were in attendance as well. High school Principal Dr. Colette Roche, Counselors,  as well as Veronica González,  Yesenia Morales,  Taisa Chuprinov, Paula Desjarlais and students hosted tours, an informational panel and lunch in the cafeteria.  Thank you staff, this is such a great opportunity for our students to experience.  

A Professional Documentary: Jefferson’s Voyager Students Collaborate to Explore Washington's Most Influential Organizations and Individuals
Jefferson’s Voyager program students worked together to answer the question: What do some of the most important organizations, companies, and individuals in Washington do in their jobs in order to make our state as strong as it is?  To find the answer, students reached out to businesses across the state and interviewed employees via Zoom. After developing scripts based on their findings, students created a captivating documentary that included various media types such as footage, music and audio narration.  Students wrote the script, and the end result is a polished and professional documentary that showcases a range of exciting and interesting information that our students worked tirelessly to compile over many weeks. They spoke with the assistant coach of the Seattle Sounders, the media-relations manager for Sea-Tac International Airport, the only handpan maker in Washington State, a historian at the University of Washington, and many others.  We hope that you'll take the time to watch and enjoy this documentary.  Great job Mr. Bishop and Voyager Students! MV Mariachi visit Tulip Valley Farm
On Monday our Award Winning MV Mariachi and MV Folklorico class visited Tulip Valley Farms. Mr. Rivera’s Mariachi students had an opportunity to take pictures in the beautiful tulip field. Students had the opportunity to learn about tulip farming from the CEO of Tulip Valley Farm Andrew Miller.  Thank you Mr. Rivera for coordinating this event, it was an amazing experience for our students! 

  

MV Mariachi are Featured performers at the Washington State Spring Fair
This past Sunday our MV Mariachi and MV Folklorico groups performed at Washington State Biggest Fair: The 2023 Washington State Spring Fair. Mr. Rivera’s Mariachi students performed two shows to a full house at the Showplace Stage at Washington State Spring Fair in Puyallup, Washington. What an honor for our Mariachi program to be chosen to be part of the biggest fair in the state!  Great job students! 

SFBC Community Forums
This week we wrapped up our fourth SFBC Community Forum.  These forums were organized as part of our efforts to involve the community in our exploration of a modified balanced calendar. The feedback received during these events proved to be extremely valuable and will be instrumental in guiding our continued work during this exploration phase.  I would like to thank all the participants for their contributions and our Stakeholders Steering Committee for their support throughout these forums. Stay tuned for the next issue of the Community Link, where we will share an update on our progress thus far.

Kinder Registration
Kinder Registration has begun and the district will be hosting Kinder Roundup events. If you know a family who has a child turning 5 by August 31, 2023, please feel free to share this information with them. Here is a link to the district website for more information.  

Morning Tea with Dr. V
With the upcoming Kinder Round Up events right around the corner, I had the opportunity to speak with TL&L Director, Melissa Van Straten. MVHS Plant Sale
The MVHS FFA Plant Sale is back and BIGGER than ever before! This year the high school has even more plants growing, new additions, more metal art and TSA’s woodshop engineers are building some cedar planter boxes as well! Students have been preparing and are excited to see you there!  This event is held at the MVHS Greenhouse (behind the gym and ag building) on Saturday, May 6th from 9am-1pm.  Cash, check and credit/debit will be accepted

• MVHS alumni, Ashley Bruland, won the GNAC women’s championship golf tournament recently.  Congratulations!  You can find the Youtube video here.  
• The MVHS Boys Soccer athletes had a chance to showcase their skills during a school assembly last week. They also played against Little Mountain 5th grade students, providing a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved. A big thank you to Tim for painting the field, coach Behr for organizing the event, and a special shoutout to the MVHS Boys Soccer athletes for taking the time to inspire our young students. Go Bulldogs!

Estudiantes de Mount Baker y LaVenture Middle School visitan la escuela secundaria
Las especialistas en idiomas de LaVenture MS, Marissa Ortiz y Ann Lackland, organizaron una visita a la escuela secundaria Mount Vernon, la primera desde que comenzó la pandemia. A ellos se unieron Stacie McNeal y Bethanie Overland, especialistas en idiomas de Mount Baker. Al evento asistieron cuarenta estudiantes de los programas migratorios y multilingües de ambas escuelas intermedias. Ja'net Pérez, enlace familiar de LVMS y especialistas en posgrados para inmigrantes, Elia Solis y Rosa Mondragón, también acompañaron a los estudiantes, mientras que las paraprofesionales de apoyo estudiantil multilingüe, Enriqueta Carrasco y Antonina Datsky, también asistieron. La directora de la escuela secundaria, la Dra. Colette Roche, los consejeros, así como Veronica González, Yesenia Morales, Taisa Chuprinov, Paula Desjarlais y los estudiantes organizaron recorridos, un panel informativo y almuerzo en la cafetería. Gracias personal, esta es una gran oportunidad para que nuestros estudiantes experimenten.

Un documental profesional: los estudiantes de Jefferson's Voyager colaboran para explorar las organizaciones e individuos más influyentes de Washington
Los estudiantes del programa Voyager de Jefferson trabajaron juntos para responder la pregunta: ¿Qué hacen algunas de las organizaciones, empresas e individuos más importantes de Washington en sus trabajos para hacer que nuestro estado sea tan fuerte como es? Para encontrar la respuesta, los estudiantes se comunicaron con empresas de todo el estado y entrevistaron a empleados a través de Zoom. Después de desarrollar guiones basados en sus hallazgos, los estudiantes crearon un documental cautivador que incluía varios tipos de medios, como imágenes, música y narración de audio. Los estudiantes escribieron el guión y el resultado final es un documental pulido y profesional que muestra una variedad de información emocionante e interesante que nuestros estudiantes trabajaron incansablemente para recopilar durante muchas semanas. Hablaron con el entrenador asistente de los Seattle Sounders, el gerente de relaciones con los medios del Aeropuerto Internacional Sea-Tac, el único fabricante de handpan en el estado de Washington, un historiador de la Universidad de Washington y muchos otros. MV Mariachi visita la Granja Tulip Valley
El lunes, nuestra clase galardonada de MV Mariachi y MV Folklorico visitó Tulip Valley Farms. Los estudiantes de Mariachi del Sr. Rivera tuvieron la oportunidad de tomar fotografías en el hermoso campo de tulipanes. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender sobre el cultivo de tulipanes del director general de Tulip Valley Farm, Andrew Miller. Gracias Sr. Rivera por coordinar este evento, ¡fue una experiencia increíble para nuestros estudiantes! Incluyo un par de fotos a continuación.

MV Mariachi son artistas destacados en la Feria de Primavera del Estado de Washington
El domingo pasado, nuestros grupos MV Mariachi y MV Folklorico se presentaron en la Feria más grande del estado de Washington: la Feria de primavera del estado de Washington de 2023. Los estudiantes de mariachi del Sr. Rivera realizaron dos espectáculos a sala llena en el Showplace Stage en la Feria de Primavera del Estado de Washington en Puyallup, Washington. ¡Qué honor para nuestro programa de Mariachi ser elegido para ser parte de la feria más grande del estado! ¡Buen trabajo estudiantes!

Foros de la comunidad de SFBC
Esta semana finalizamos nuestro cuarto Foro Comunitario de SFBC. Estos foros se organizaron como parte de nuestros esfuerzos para involucrar a la comunidad en nuestra exploración de un calendario equilibrado modificado. Los comentarios recibidos durante estos eventos demostraron ser extremadamente valiosos y serán fundamentales para guiar nuestro trabajo continuo durante esta fase de exploración. Quisiera agradecer a todos los participantes por sus contribuciones ya nuestro Comité Directivo de Partes Interesadas por su apoyo a lo largo de estos foros. Estén atentos para el próximo número de Community Link, donde compartiremos una actualización de nuestro progreso hasta el momento.

La inscripción para Kinder ha comenzado y el distrito organizará eventos de Kinder Roundup. Si conoce a una familia que tiene un hijo que cumplirá 5 años antes del 31 de agosto de 2023, no dude en compartir esta información con ellos. Té de la mañana con el Dr. V
Con los próximos eventos de Kinder Round Up a la vuelta de la esquina, tuve la oportunidad de hablar con la directora de TL&L, Melissa Van Straten. Los animo a ver el video para obtener más información sobre cómo el distrito está desplegando el tapete de bienvenida para los estudiantes de jardín de infantes y sus familias. Venta de Planta MVHS
¡La venta de plantas FFA de MVHS está de vuelta y es MÁS GRANDE que nunca! ¡Este año, la escuela secundaria tiene aún más plantas en crecimiento, nuevas incorporaciones, más arte en metal y los ingenieros de carpintería de TSA también están construyendo algunas macetas de cedro! ¡Los estudiantes se han estado preparando y están emocionados de verlos allí! Este evento se lleva a cabo en el Invernadero de MVHS (detrás del gimnasio y del edificio agrícola) el sábado 6 de mayo de 9 am a 1 pm. Se aceptará efectivo, cheque y crédito/débito

• Los atletas de MVHS Boys Soccer tuvieron la oportunidad de mostrar sus habilidades durante una asamblea escolar la semana pasada. También jugaron contra estudiantes de quinto grado de Little Mountain, brindando una experiencia divertida y memorable para todos los involucrados. Muchas gracias a Tim por pintar el campo, al entrenador Behr por organizar el evento y un reconocimiento especial a los atletas de MVHS Boys Soccer por tomarse el tiempo para inspirar a nuestros jóvenes estudiantes. ¡Vamos Bulldogs!
